Never Ending Political Crisis

Nepal is facing a sort of political crisis which turns out to be never ending. With the Maoist involved in peace process, had joined hand with the government to form an interim government and conduct the Constituent Assembly election(which was the main point of the maoist movement) and declare Nepal as a federal country. But now nothing is happening as they have said. People supported them because they wanted peace; they don't want war in the country and wanted a political stability but the political parties are playing with the peoples' sentiment and fighting with each other, which has led the peace process in the country in danger.

With the arrival of Dashain the Nepalese forgetting all their regrets and enmity, they all are celebrating Dashain with joy and spreading the message of brotherhood and sisterhood to all Nepalese in Nepal and all around the world.
Though the country is stucked in the political crisis and day by day the political future of the country is destabilizing, but with the arrival of this great festival they have forgotten all the pain and crises for the time being and hoping for their political salvation, they are praying the goddes Durga for solving the political crises in their country and give their country peace and happiness.

Where the Future of Nepal is Heading?

The constituent assembly election in Nepal has again been postponed and we don't know when the election will take place. The political parties who are representing their parties in the government are in constant conflict with each other about their own referendum and are putting the Nepali people, who were hoping of constituent assembly to be carried out soon so that they can see the bright future of their country and themselves, in great dilemma.
With the great festival of Nepalese, the Dashain, coming ahead the people might have been thinking to celebrate it wonderfully because after this great festival there was the CA election, but with the postponement of the election and lots of strike going on in different regions, and no solutions of the problem between the two major political parties (the maoist and the nepali congress) coming forward, this great festival of all the Nepalese is going to be somewhat bitter with no uncertainty of their country's future.

Nepal created a History

Nepal created a history by winning the ACC-U19 Elite Cup title for the fouth time. For this Nepal defeated Afganistan, who has not lost any of its game in the match, by 48 runs in the final match. To defeat the Afganistan, Nepali bowlers played a key role, but batsman too proved their defiant character.

Winning the toss, Nepal chose to bat first; but their decision was proved wrong when Afganistani bowler took key five Nepali wickets with just 60 runs in the score board. But the Nepali players showed their defiance towards Afganistan bowlers and put a total of 171 runs with two balls to spare of fifty overs.

In reply, Nepali bowlers performed well and limited the Afganistan innings in 124 runs all out.
With this win Nepal now plays the runners-up of European region for a spot in the Youth World Cup. Apart from Nepal; Malaysia as the hosts of the World Cup 2008, automatically qualifies for the event.

Will There Be Constitution Assembly Election

Only 98 days are left for CA election, and still the people of Nepal are not convinced that the government of Nepal could hold the CA election on time. The ministers who are representing different major parties of Nepal are saying publicly that they will hold election on time and with maximum safety measures, but the members of their parties are also not sure of it. They are certain that if the present crisis that are going on in Terai is not resolved in time, CA election is not possilbe. And if CA election is not possible then Nepal is certain to face lot of crises both internally and externally. To give the Nepalese what they want and to establish a New Nepal, it is of utmost necessare that the election be on time. Otherwise, no one know what will happen. Regarding CA election in Nepal different people and countries have different views. What do you think of it? Will CA election be hold on time?

Shooting Stars

Last night I planned to stay till late night, so that I can watch the shooting star. I thought that will be my first day ever to see lots of shooting stars. The event of occuring shooting star was beign broadcasted by different news channel.

The time of it to occur was after 11 pm (nepali time). It was raining, and the sky was not clear, but I had hope that after eleven the sky will be clear and I will be able to view that scene. But after ten the rain started pouring down heavily. I waited till midnight but the sky was all cloudy and rain was pouring dogs and cats. With heavy heart for not able to see the shooting stars I went to my bed.

This morning 13th August, I tuned the news channel and tried to view the report of shooting stars hoping that they might have got the picture of it. But they were not broadcasting it. I then hurried to check the net and found that bbc has shown the picture of shooting stars. I felt glad looking that picture and blamed my bad luck for not getting to view it in real.

The Fame of Indian Idol

The third Indian Idol broadcasted by Sony TV of India has gained a lot of popularity since its two earlier indian idols. It has mostly affected the south asian who are the the customer of indian television and who spends hours watching indian soaps and other programs. Here I am talking about Nepal and nepalese.

Earlier the indian television has just affected the house wives, who love to see all those family serials, but since the sony tv has aired indian idol it has attracted lots of younger generation too. In earlier Indian idols, they were not much attracted but in this third Indian idol they are supporting a single person i.e Prashant Tamang. Why are they supporting him? Because he is of Nepali origin and the youngsters due to patriotism they are giving a back hand on him. Not only because he is Nepali, but also he sings pretty well and the judges of Indian Idol has also frequently praised him of his singing talent.

Being a Nepali too I am supporting him and request everyone to support him to win the Indian Idol title. Who are you supporting?

Maoist plenum may decide to quit govt before CA polls

Majority of the participants of the ongoing Maoist plenum have said the party should step out of the coalition cabinet as soon as possible and go for a street movement.

Commenting on party chairman Prachanda’s proposal presented for discussion in the plenum being held at the Balaju Industrial Estate said the eight-party government had failed to achieve desired political goals and that the CPN (Maoist) had no purpose continuing with the government, sources said.

Prachanda’s dossier proposes that the party quit the interim government before constituent assembly polls if the government fails to work on three major areas: disclosure of whereabouts of disappeared citizens, radical land reform and action against the suppressors of Janandolan-II. The Maoist leaders today engaged in intensive debate in 40 different groups. With nearly 2000 central leaders, Members of the Parliament and district leaders, the plenum is the biggest congregation of the Maoist party organised in recent times.

The 5th plenum that kicked off on Friday will announce the party’s future strategies. The plenum being held amidst tight security by the People’s Liberation Army is expected to run for another three days.

First female president for India

Pratibha Patil is to become India's first woman president after winning a comprehensive election victory, Indian officials say.

Mrs Patil, 72, won nearly two-thirds of votes cast in state assemblies and in India's parliament, they said.

The former governor of the northern Indian state of Rajasthan described her win as "a victory of the people".

Mrs Patil's supporters say her election to the largely ceremonial role will be a boost to millions of Indian women.

The BBC's Sanjoy Majumder, in Delhi, says that while some see her victory as an important step towards gender equality in India, many view it as only a symbolic gesture.

Millions of women in India face discrimination and poverty often linked to age-old traditions which require the parents of a bride to pay a large dowry to the family of her eventual husband.
Women's landmark

Mrs Patil emerged as a surprise, last-minute candidate after left-wing parties in the Congress-led coalition opposed the Congress Party's first choice.

She was backed by Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, but was mocked by opponents and by some sections of India's media.

But Mrs Gandhi, the Congress Party leader, hailed her candidate's win.
"In the 60th year of our independence, for the first time we have a woman president," she said.
"I am grateful to the people of India and the men and women of India and this is a victory for the principles which our Indian people uphold," the Reuters news agency quoted Mrs Patil as saying after his victory was confirmed.

There was also support at a hostel Mrs Patil established in Mumbai, in her home state of Maharashtra.
"It is encouraging for other women who want to step out of their homes and make something out of their careers or do something in the world," said one resident, Priya Mehra.

Balancing role

Mrs Patil has courted controversy, recently telling a Muslim congregation that the veil was introduced to protect their women from Mughal invaders, a comment she later retracted.
She also faced allegations that a bank she helped set up gave out cheap loans to her relatives before it folded up.

The Congress Party has rejected those allegations and was highly critical of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led opposition candidate, Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, an 83-year-old party veteran.

The presidency is largely a ceremonial post, but plays a key role with a fragmented electorate often throwing up precariously placed coalition governments.

Around 4,500 MPs and state legislators were eligible to vote in the election.

Mrs Patil will succeed A P J Abdul Kalam, a popular missile scientist, as president.

New Nepal

Nepal has undergone a drastic change since the people of Nepal poured down in roads against the autocratic movement of the King Gyanendra. They started revolution. They risked their life against the autocratic regime, hoping that if they succeed in felling down the autocratic regime; they along with their children can enjoy a peaceful and developed Nepal, where the people can enjoy full democratic powere.
Taking such dreams they felled the regime and the leaders of different political parties in the parliament along with the rebel group (Maoist) formed an interim government which cut the power of the king and made him powerless so that in future he will be no threat for the Nepali people and Nepal.
The people of Nepal are demanding that republic system should be instilled in Nepal, but the political parties have their mixed views regarding republic governement and are delaying the constituent assembly election. But due to the pressure of public and different civic group and human right organization they are compelled to declare the date of election and decide whether there should be republic government or not.
People of Nepal wish for democratic republic government, which they hope is better for the peace and development of Nepal. What do you think? Please leave comment.

UAE to launch direct flights to Nepal

United Arab Emirates (UAE) is set to start direct flights to Kathmandu.

UAE Labour Minister Dr Ali Bin Abdullah Al-Kaabi told a news conference at the end of his three-day tour to Nepal on Wednesday that the UAE national flag carrier, Emirates Airlines, would launch direct flights to Kathmandu from October 28 this year.

Direct flights to Kathmandu will help make travel easier for Nepali workers as well as increase the number of tourists in Nepal. He also informed that the UAE was planning to establish its contact office in Kathmandu by the end of December.

On Tuesday, Nepal and UAE signed Labour Agreement, which gives legal status to Nepali workers in the UAE ensuring the rights according to the local laws.

The labour agreement, signed for the first time with a Gulf state, is also believed to increase the minimum wage of Nepali workers in UAE.

There are 150,000 Nepalis working in UAE alone. The agreement, which is meant for four years, will be automatically renewed for another four years.

Speaking at the joint news conference today, Minister of State for Labour and Transport Management Ramesh Lekhak said the labour agreement was an important step in resolving the problems facing Nepali workers in UAE.

“Earlier, there was no government to government communication. We had difficulties discussing the problems of workers with the right authority. The labour agreement will make things easier,” he said.

(NEPAL) : Monarchy necessary for national unity and integrity, says Sharma

President of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP-Nepal) Rabindra Nath Sharma has said that the institution of monarchy is necessary to preserve national unity and integrity.

"In order to save national unity and integrity, the institution of monarchy is necessary," said Sharma, addressing a press meet at the end of two-day national gathering of his party in Lalitpur on Tuesday.

Sharma said that at present the national unity is in a 'dangerous position.'
He also said that the recent second amendment of constitution whereby two-third majority of MPs can vote out the monarchy is unacceptable. Sharma said that even the Constituent Assembly cannot decide the fate of monarchy. "Only referendum can do so," he added.
Sharma-led RPP-Nepal has said that it will follow the policy supporting constitutional monarchy and Hindu nation.

Meanwhile, protesting RPP-Nepal's former president and former Home Minister Kamal Thapa's comments on monarchy and against eight parties, the activists of eight parties of Thapa's home district Makwanpur have decided not to allow RPP-Nepal to stage any programme in the district.

Leaders express solidarity towards democratic movement in Bhutan

A three-member team led by Bhutanese refugee leader Tek Nath Rijal met former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress (Democratic) president Sher Bahadur Deuba Tuesday on a drive aimed at rallying support for democracy in Bhutan.
Deuba is said to have assured the refugee leaders of his party’s full support in the movement to establish democracy in Bhutan.
Other refugee leaders in the team included Balaram Poudel and Thinle Penjor.
Similarly, the team also met Nepal Workers’ and Peasant Party chairman Narayanman Bijukche the same day. In the meeting, the communist leader expressed his solidarity towards the movement of the Bhutanese people for self-determination.
The Bhutanese government has been lately toying with the idea of democracy. On April 22 it staged a mock poll as a rehearsal for the parliamentary elections scheduled for 2008, the first in country’s history.
